The guidance test
Which status suits you?
On this page 6 sections
How the test works
The test asks four questions, in the order in which Andorran law distinguishes the statuses. The second depends on your first answer: it concerns the key condition of the corresponding status.
Your work from Andorra
Employee of an Andorran company, director of your own company, provider of services to foreign clients, or no work.
The deciding condition
A job offer; more than 34% of the capital and effective management; at least 85% of services used outside Andorra; or an investment of €1,000,000.
Your presence
More than 183 days, between 90 and 183 days, or fewer than 90 days a year: the threshold changes which status is possible and your tax residency.
Your family
Dependants increase the amounts to be paid and the resources required for some statuses.
The 4 residence permits the test can suggest
| Permit | Your plan | Deciding condition | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Work permit (employee) | Working as an employee of an Andorran company | An employment contract | A place in the general quota: 900 permits until 30 April 2027 |
| Self-employed residency | Setting up or taking over an Andorran company | More than 34% of the capital and effective management | €50,000 paid to the AFA, non-refundable |
| International professional | Serving clients mostly based outside Andorra | At least 85% of services used outside Andorra | A refundable deposit of €47,500 |
| Passive residency | Living on your assets or your pension | €1,000,000 invested in Andorra | €50,000 paid to the AFA, non-refundable |
Other statuses exist for particular cases (scientific, cultural or sporting interest, digital nomads, programme for entrepreneurs, care facilities). They are presented in our comparison of types of residency, and the conditions common to all permits on our page on becoming resident in Andorra.
The limits of the test: digital nomad, family, cross-border worker
The test decides between the four most requested permits. Three common situations fall outside it:
- remote work for a foreign employer or foreign clients: see the digital nomad status, which requires a favourable decision from the Ministry of the Economy;
- the family: spouse, children and parents follow the permit holder, as dependants or through family reunification; see how to move with your family;
- working in Andorra without living there: cross-border workers have their own authorisation; see working in Andorra and living in France.
After the test: what next?
- Read the guide to the suggested status in full, including the renewal conditions.
- Cost your plan with our guide to the AFA deposit and the cost of residency.
- Prepare your paperwork, then submit your application to the Immigration Service, by appointment.
- Estimate your Andorran tax with the calculator.
- Check the consequences in France: leaving France for tax purposes.
Frequently asked questions
Does the test result count as an authorisation?
No. The test points you to the status to look into first, based on the published rules. Only the Govern’s Immigration Service processes applications, within the limits of the annual quotas.
Are my answers recorded?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser: no answer is sent or stored.
Why does the test mention 90 and 183 days?
They are two different thresholds: 90 days of presence a year are enough to keep passive residency or residency as an international professional; more than 183 days are in principle needed to be an Andorran tax resident, and to renew self-employed residency.
I am a content creator: which status should I choose?
Most often, an Andorran company in which you hold more than 34% and self-employed residency; or the status of professional with international reach if at least 85% of your services are used outside Andorra. The dedicated guide details both routes.

Does the test cover digital nomads and family reunification?
No. It decides between the four most requested permits. Remote work for a foreign employer or foreign clients falls under the digital nomad status, and the family follows the permit holder, as dependants or through family reunification: these cases are covered below, with their guides.
What if no status matches?
That is useful information: it is better to know before you incur any costs. Reread the conditions of each status, or have your case reviewed by a professional.
